‘American Horror Story: Cult’ Is “Not What You You Think,” Says EP Alexis Martin Woodall – TCA
We know that Ryan Murphy’s seventh offering in his American Horror Story anthology will be entitled Cult and will have some association with the 2016 Presidential election. But at TCA, EP Alexis Martin Woodall said that the new administration will not play the part we might expect. “When Ryan had to make the announcement originally that the season was going to deal with Trump,” she said, “I think it’s more about what’s going on in our world around us.”
However, the show will certainly feed into the state of mind surrounding the election, since Woodall said the show will feature a “streak of paranoia,” but she added, “it’s not what you think it is — and I’m not trying to be cagey. It’s just with all good horror and suspense not knowing is going to be good for you.” When pushed for more, Woodall conceded that she would describe the new season as, “bloody tension, a well-cooked meal, an exciting trip to a grocery store. It is true to our brand, which is you are going to be in a whole new world all over again, and fall in love with these really special characters and hate yourself for watching it before you go to bed.”
Newcomer to the AHS collection Billie Lourd elaborated a little on the tone of the new season, saying, “This is straight-up horror drama I’d say,” she said. “It’s definitely less of my comedic side and more of my dark side.”
Another newcomer, Alison Pill also referred to the season’s “streak of paranoia,” calling it “infectious.” She admitted working on the creepy show had affected her on a personal level. “I have a baby, and have to get up at night and do feedings and come back into the bathroom. The shower door behind me when I wash my hands never used to be a problem,” she joked.
Another clue as to what we might see on this upcoming season came from make-up artist Eryn Krueger Mekash, who said, “Sometimes we have days where we’re doing five or six neck slashes a day, or where intestines are coming out of say Leslie Grossman.”
Grossman said she has come back into the Ryan Murphy fold with a great sense of excitement. “I feel that I’m a comedy lady,” she said. “The show [AHS] is so scary, I DVR it and watch it in the daytime, because if I watch it before bed there are sleeping issues.”
As for why the show continues to be a resounding success, Sarah Paulson said, “I don’t know what the magic bullet is, why people love this show. I mean I love it, but I don’t know.” She predicted AHS will go on while “other things lay by the wayside.”

As expected, Scream Queens has been canceled at Fox after two seasons. The show will be missed! However, we do have the upcoming season of American Horror Story to look forward to.
‘Scream Queens’ Canceled at Fox After Two Seasons
“We have no plans at this point to go back there and tell more stories,” co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman told reporters Monday.
It appears to be the end of the road for Scream Queens.
On a conference call with reporters Monday to discuss its fall schedule, Fox co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman confirmed that there are no plans to bring back Ryan Murphy’s comedy-horror anthology series.
“Scream Queens was an anthological series,” Newman said. “It feels as if it was a compete story. We have no plans at this point to go back there and tell more stories so we won’t be seeing Scream Queens this season.”
Not even one of the most powerful showrunners working in TV could keep the softly rated Scream Queens on the air. Though it had a following, one Fox brass emphasized was young and heavily multiplatform, linear ratings were weak, the second season of Scream Queens only averaged a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers with live-plus-seven returns.
Scream Queens was one of the first big swings for Fox TV Group chairmen Dana Walden and Newman. They gave the 20th TV horror-comedy a straight-to-series order shortly after assuming control of the broadcast network. But it never quite lived up to all of the promotion.
The starry cast should be fine. Billie Lourd, for one, has already lined up a role in the upcoming seventh installment of Murphy’s American Horror Story, and Lea Michele is starring in the ABC comedy The Mayor, among others. And weep not for Murphy. He has a half-dozen thriving anthologies on cable sibling FX, in addition to the procedural drama 911, which was picked up to series by Fox last week.

‘American Horror Story’ Recruits Billie Lourd for Season 7
She joins fellow new addition Billy Eichner in the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk FX anthology.
FX’s American Horror Story is recruiting another familiar face for season seven.
Scream Queens grad Billie Lourd has been tapped to star opposite franchise mainstay Sarah Paulson in the upcoming cycle of the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk anthology, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Season seven, which will likely bow in its standard October period, will be an election-themed cycle though Trump and Clinton are not currently on the show’s ballot. The season begins the day after the election. Character and additional plot details are being kept under wraps.
Lourd joins fellow franchise newbie Billy Eichner, who will recur, in season seven. Returning castmembers include Evan Peters.
The actress, the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher and CAA managing director Bryan Lourd, recently completed the second season of Murphy and Falchuk’s Fox anthology Scream Queens. The series is not expected to return for a third season as fellow stars, including Lea Michele, have already booked other projects in first position.
“All of the stuff that I’m developing now is going to be about illuminating and highlighting people who don’t have a voice in our culture — people who are ignored by the current administration and who are afraid and feel terrorized that their lives are going to be taken away,” Murphy previously told THR about his post-election work.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Billie is set to host a chat at the screening of Postcards From the Edge (1990) during the TCM Classic Film Festival. There will also be a screening for Singin’ in the Rain (1952). The festival starts from April 6th to the 9th.
Grant and Bogdanovich also will sit down for conversations inside Club TCM at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
The late Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher will be celebrated with screenings of Singin’ in the Rain (1952) and Postcards From the Edge (1990), with family members Todd Fisher and Billie Lourd hosting chats at both screenings.
TCM said that the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has come aboard as an official festival partner and co-host of the opening night screening and party.

Carrie Fisher, the actress best known as Star Wars‘ Princess Leia Organa, has died after suffering a heart attack. She was 60.
Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement to PEOPLE on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd, 24. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23, when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. She later died in the hospital.
The daughter of renowned entertainers Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Fisher was brought up in the sometimes tumultuous world of film, theater and television.
